Description

Inside the currently dormant volcano on the largest island of the Spec lands Archipelago, one genus of stonecrop plants has managed to eke out a living on the isles: The Cactus mimic. Having convergently evolved with it's namesake, it has spines, areola like structures and reduced leaves... And it also has large, quite edible tubers much like a Potato's that store . In order to obtain water from it's arid environment, this plant, much like it's namesake the Cactus, digs through soil to reach the pockets of water under it's home. It's spines, unlike the True cactus, function not only as deterrents to grazers, but UV ray reflectors that keep the plant from getting sunburnt, which is a vital adaption in a world losing it's Ozone layer. Pollinators of this plant include small wasps and an endemic species of Anole which has become an omnivore that consumes both the wasps and the sweet, pungent nectar of the purple flowers. It's methods of reproduction are relatively unremarkable, as it is a flowering plant and usually relies on insects and the Honey anole to pollinate it's flowers.
